In the light of the holy month of ‘Ramadan’, OUM hosted its annual Majlis Berbuka Puasa on 29th October 2004. The event, ‘Majlis Nur Ramadan dan Berbuka Puasa Open University Malaysia bersama Anak-Anak Yatim Asrama Darul Falah Perkim (ASDAF)’ was held for the first time at Masjid Wilayah Persekutuan.

Majlis Berbuka Puasa is an annual event of OUM with the aim of instilling good family and social values and to share its success with the needy and less fortunate. A total of 90 orphans and staff from Asrama Darul Falah Perkim (ASDAF) were invited to the event. ASDAF was established on 19th August 1995 as an orphanage and welfare institution for children from the Orang Asli community across Malaysia, aged from 3 to 18 years old. One of the objectives for the establishment of the institute is to support the government’s effort in the development of the Orang Asli community across Malaysia which includes working into their welfare and ensuring that the children obtain formal education with basic necessities for their wellbeing.

In addition to this, OUM also took the opportunity to hand over a cheque to Puan Sawias binti Awang, widow of Allahyarham Mat Akhir Yusof a student from the September 2003 intake in the Bachelor of Information Management programme at the Learning Centre in Sibu, Sarawak who passed away in a traffic accident early this year. The compensation of RM31,000/- is a result of the Group Personal Accident Policy undertaken by OUM for its students.
