  • Editor’s note
In an attempt to get to know our ‘clients’ better, staff from the Corporate Relations Unit visited the Regional/University Learning Centres in Johore, Penang and Kedah during the first tutorial in mid -January this year. Generally, the students expressed great satisfaction and have no serious issues with respect to learning the OUM way. In Johore, some of the students interviewed view OUM as one of ‘the best’ learning vehicle. The opportunity of obtaining a degree through Open & Distance Learning as provided by OUM suited the teachers
who were bent on career advancement and better promotion prospects. Similar views were expressed by students in Penang and Kedah who found the flexibility and facility of on-line registration a big plus for them. Support from family and bosses at the work place provided the extra push they needed. However, some students did highlight areas where OUM could further strengthen its processes and improve the services provided. These issues have been forwarded to the management who are constantly mindful of OUM’s top priority for quality.

Puan Nor Azize Jaafar & Puan Hafizah Jaafar
(Sisters in 9th Semester TESL) Both of us are sisters. We are going to accomplish our studies even though we are going through a hard time managing family, children, jobs, coursework and tutorials. Open University has really opened its heart to both of us as it lightens our burden with once a fortnight tutorial, quizzes and online discussions. We appreciate the OUM style of learning.

En. Md Yusoff Ahmad
4th Semester, TESL When I first attended the tutorial class in January 2004, I was 44 years old. Finally, here I am pursuing my first degree at this age! (my nephew who is at his early 30's is at present doing his PhD). Nevertheless, I strongly believe that it is never too old to study. With all the facilities and the comfort provided by OUM like the online-interaction, digital library, the learning centre, friendly and knowledgeable tutors (the list goes on), I personally find that studying at OUM is really interesting, challenging and worthwhile. With that note, I salute you OUM! Thank you for making my dream and many others, a reality.
