Editor's Note
Greetings to all Readers,
Inline with its philosophy for a ‘University for All’, OUM is
focused on developing and promoting its academic
programmes with emphasis on Lifelong Learning. Through
the blended pedagogy approach at OUM, accessibility and
flexibility of Open and Distance Learning should be made
available for everyone.
Various programmes have been introduced, promoted and
expanded for this objective such as the launch of Lifelong
Learning programmes at Negeri Sembilan and
emplacement of the Partial Study Fee Exemption Scheme
for Senior Citizens and Disabled Persons. Efforts on
Managing Education through Technology were also
highlighted through the EMTECH 2005 Conference and
various issues were brought into attention.
In its Journey for Quality and to become a world class
educational provider, part of OUM’s policy to determine the
success of the University lies in upholding its Quality Policy
ie ‘Q Policy’. OUM’s Q Policy which is ‘to implement total
quality measures in its operations to ensure quality
programmes are effectively delivered at reasonable costs
through quality work culture’ has proven on various
occasion to be a driving factor for the University. The ISO
certification for Tan Sri Dato’ Dr Abdullah Sanusi Digital
Library is a one-of-a kind achievement being the first digital

library to be awarded such a prestigious recognition and
marked a historical milestone for OUM in its strive for
Quality. The introduction of the Quality Awards is also a
positive initiative to encourage quality work culture at OUM.
OUM also took part to celebrate and commemorate the 48th
Merdeka Celebration nationwide, 8 participated by OUM
Main Campus, Regional and Local Learning Centres.
OUM’s very own Merdeka Float also made its first
appearance for the first time during the Merdeka Parade
held at Putrajaya.
In conjunction with the auspicious Merdeka celebration,
OUM opened its campus grounds to the public with an
Open Day. The event which coincided with OUM’s Fifth
Anniversary also highlighted YBhg Tan Sri Dato’ Azman
Hashim, Executive Chairman of Arab-Malaysian Corporation
Berhad (AMBANK) as OUM Pro-Chancellor for the first
time.
Besides, with another round of students’ intake registration,
a total number of 1,726 students registered for the
September 2005 semester giving an overall total of 32,628
students. OUM welcomes all new and returning students to
start off the September 2005 academic semester and wish
you the very best in your endeavours.
