Editor's Note
Greetings to all Readers,

Inline with its philosophy for a ‘University for All’, OUM is focused on developing and promoting its academic programmes with emphasis on Lifelong Learning. Through the blended pedagogy approach at OUM, accessibility and flexibility of Open and Distance Learning should be made available for everyone.

Various programmes have been introduced, promoted and expanded for this objective such as the launch of Lifelong Learning programmes at Negeri Sembilan and emplacement of the Partial Study Fee Exemption Scheme for Senior Citizens and Disabled Persons. Efforts on Managing Education through Technology were also highlighted through the EMTECH 2005 Conference and various issues were brought into attention.

In its Journey for Quality and to become a world class educational provider, part of OUM’s policy to determine the success of the University lies in upholding its Quality Policy ie ‘Q Policy’. OUM’s Q Policy which is ‘to implement total quality measures in its operations to ensure quality programmes are effectively delivered at reasonable costs through quality work culture’ has proven on various occasion to be a driving factor for the University. The ISO certification for Tan Sri Dato’ Dr Abdullah Sanusi Digital Library is a one-of-a kind achievement being the first digital

library to be awarded such a prestigious recognition and marked a historical milestone for OUM in its strive for Quality. The introduction of the Quality Awards is also a positive initiative to encourage quality work culture at OUM.

OUM also took part to celebrate and commemorate the 48th Merdeka Celebration nationwide, 8 participated by OUM Main Campus, Regional and Local Learning Centres. OUM’s very own Merdeka Float also made its first appearance for the first time during the Merdeka Parade held at Putrajaya.

In conjunction with the auspicious Merdeka celebration, OUM opened its campus grounds to the public with an Open Day. The event which coincided with OUM’s Fifth Anniversary also highlighted YBhg Tan Sri Dato’ Azman Hashim, Executive Chairman of Arab-Malaysian Corporation Berhad (AMBANK) as OUM Pro-Chancellor for the first time.

Besides, with another round of students’ intake registration, a total number of 1,726 students registered for the September 2005 semester giving an overall total of 32,628 students. OUM welcomes all new and returning students to start off the September 2005 academic semester and wish you the very best in your endeavours.
