In the spirit of celebrating a month long nationwide campaign and
celebration to commemorate Malaysia’s 48th Independence Day,
OUM held a Launching Ceremony of the Merdeka Month and Jalur
Gemilang Campaign. The launch was held on 17 August 2005 during
the METEOR Group of Companies Staff Assembly at OUM at the
Main Campus. To mark this special occasion, staff were provided with
mini Malaysian flags and lyrics to the Jalur Gemilang and Keranamu
Malaysia song.
Various activities organised by the Ministry of Higher Education and
OUM were held and participated by OUM Regional and Local
Learning Centres in all parts of the country. To start it off, OUM
participated in the Merdeka Run at Cyberjaya as well followed by the
Merdeka Day Parade and Procession at Dataran Putrajaya on 31
August 2005. OUM Open Day and Merdeka Month Celebration were
celebrated with OUM’s Pro Chancellor, YBhg Tan Sri Azman Hashim
on 27 August 2005. The OUM - Melaka Merdeka Trail Car Convoy
(Konvoi Kereta Jejak Merdeka) was participated by more than 30 cars
on 10 September 2005.
Highlights for this year’s 48th Merdeka Day celebration was the
participation in the Merdeka Day Procession, making a debut for
OUM’s very own float designed by a team led by Dean from the
Faculty of Engineering and Technical Studies, Associate Prof Dr Rosli
Hamir.
