In its journey for Quality, the Centre for Quality Management and Research & Innovation (CQMRI) once again proved to strengthen its effort in promoting quality work culture through the launch of its Quality Awards.

The auspicious ceremony was officiated by Group Chief Executive Officer, METEOR Sdn Bhd cum President/Vice-Chancellor, YBhg Prof Tan Sri Datuk Dr Anuwar Ali, during the quarterly METEOR Group of Companies Staff Assembly on 7 July 2005 at the Auditorium, OUM Main Campus.

YBhg Prof Tan Sri said that the Quality Award Launch showed that OUM’s commitment towards the initiative to inculcate a quality culture based on OUM’s Five Shared Values will be measured and assessed accordingly to see its effectiveness. This was to ensure that a quality and excellent work culture among OUM staff was emplaced.

It was also a memorable event for OUM as Tan Sri Dr Abdullah Sanusi Digital Library was awarded the MS ISO 9001:2000 certification from SIRIM.

The certificate was awarded by Executive Director of SIRIM QAS International Sdn Bhd, Tuan Hj Ab Razak Salim, to YBhg Prof Tan Sri Anuwar.

YBhg Prof Dato’ Wira Ir Dr Mohammad Noor Hj Salleh, Vice-President (Learning Centre Management and Development) in his welcoming address as Chairman of Quality Awards Working Committee stressed the importance of the Quality Awards as motivation to inculcate total overall quality culture and not merely to solve quality related problems.

The ceremony ended with a Certificate presentation to OUM. Lead Auditors who were trained on 4 - 8 January 2005.

OUM marked another milestone with Tan Sri Dr Abdullah Sanusi Digital Library being awarded the ISO 9001:2000 certification on 27 May 2005. Tan Sri Abdullah Sanusi Ahmad Digital Library is the first digital library of its kind in the country and perhaps in Asia to be awarded the prestigious international ISO 9001:2000 quality certification.

This certification encapsulated two crucial achievements i.e. (i) the Library processes met the quality standards benchmarked internationally, and (ii) the Library successfully put in place the continuous improvement processes that met the international benchmark.

The Digital Library is an important support service to OUM students and staff. With the ISO certification, the Library’s achievement notably symbolises OUM’s commitment to provide its students with the best services, and to continually improve on the University’s academic and support services beyond its clients’ expectations. These would be translated into more efficient services, innovative products, and new value-added services.

In the journey for quality, elements such as dedication, integrity, professionalism, caring and innovativeness contributed to the success of this achievement. These five elements that made up OUM’s shared values were the driving force behind two years of dedicated effort by the management and staff of OUM to ensure that all of its services, including support services are of quality standard. This achievement would bring continous and positive impacts either directly or indirectly to its students and other clients.

A note of congratulations to all staffs of Tan Sri Digital Library for a job well done.
