YBhg Prof Dr Nirwan Idrus (QA Consultant) presented the welcoming address with a presentation on Quality Management System (QMS) followed by Assoc Prof Dr Mohd Kidin Shahran from Faculty of Science and Foundation Studies as OUM’s Chief Internal Auditor who enlightened the participants on Auditing and Audit Performance.

Puan Hjh Kamariah Mohd. Noor, the Registrar together with Puan Sharipah Hanon Bidin, Chief Librarian availed themselves for an experience-sharing session from the auditees’ point of view. Encik Abd Razak Mohamed, Senior Manager, Centre for Student Affairs (Lead Auditor) shared a valuable first-hand views and tips from an auditor’s point of view. He recommended that ‘icebreaking’ session during the opening meeting could help IAs a lot in carrying out auditing process and to have a checklist of activities as a guide during the Internal Quality Auditing.

A five-day intensive course on auditing was conducted on 22 - 26 August 2005 at Kuala Lumpur Learning Centre. The course was conducted by Mr. Tejwinder Singh from Sirim Training Services Sdn Bhd. Ten participants from various units/departments of OUM were chosen to attend the training.

This five-day course prepared trainees for the qualification process for ISO 9001:2000 and trained them how to conduct audits for Certification Bodies. It also stressed on empowerment of the auditors, to give practical help and information to those who were working towards compliance and certification.

This highly participative course provided comprehensive instruction on auditing quality management systems. The training concentrated primarily on audits, such as internal audit, supplier and third-party audits. Practical workshops, case studies, and simulated assessments were used to practice new skills and techniques.
